All About Obsidian

The whole time I was growing up, obsidian was my absolute favorite gemstone to work with. Especially as a young developing empath, I found this stone absolute invaluable.

Obsidian is actually volcanic glass – a gemstone that forms with lava cools from a volcano. It has a glassy black appearance and sometimes has white ‘snowflakes’.  It was used by native peoples as knife blades, arrowheads, and speartips, so it’s a very versatile stone with a very long history.

Obsidian works as a defensive stone – deflecting and absorbing negative and unwanted energies and vibrations. This is especially important for developing psychics as, during development, they tend to be very sensitive to the energy around them. As such, an obsidian used in this fashion should be cleansed daily to keep it fresh, charged, and able to fulfill it’s duty.

Also, for soft spoken people, obsidian provides a boundary between the self and other people so other people are less likely to step across the line and take advantage of the soft spoken person. The obsidian also lends strength so that standing up for yourself and enforcing your own boundaries becomes easier over time.

It’s best to wear obsidian as jewelry or carry it in another way where it can be close to the skin. Many people carry obsidian as a worry stone and in times of need when they want to invoke the energy of obsidian, will rub it gently to get the energy flowing.

Nathara has been a practicing psychic, witch, spiritual advisor, and teacher for over two decades. As a third generation intuitive, she had the benefit of learning from the generations before her and holds that privilege close to her heart as the time she had with her mother is dear and precious to her. As an empath, she has always cared deeply for other people- maybe too deeply – and ultimately wants the world to happy and healthy. This is ultimate motivation behind CrowSong Lodge – how to heal the world – and giving folks the same benefit and privilege that she was given.
