Cleansing Powers of Earth

Earth is not typically the first element thought of for cleansing, but as all things come from and all things return to it, the Earth can be the ultimate in cleansing energies.

Typically Earth cleansing is used in the disposal of items – especially spent ritual items that are not to be used again. For example, at the end of of a candle magic rite, you would take the candle nub after the candle has burned out and you would bury it in the Earth at least 6 inches down. The same is true of fire rituals – once you burn something, the ashes then are returned to the Earth for their final rest.

We do the same with our physical bodies. Once they are done in life, they are returned to the Earth for cleansing and buried beneath her soil.

But Earth is not only for the end life, but also can be used to cleanse ritual and spiritual objects. To do so, simply bury the object in clean fresh Earth for a couple days, preferably during the full moon. Alternately, objects can be immersed in sea salt, which also comes from the Earth. After allowing the Earth to seep into, cleanse, and transform your objects for a couple days, unbury the object and give it a good physical cleansing. Once your finished, your object is ready for use.

We’ve covered how to cleanse things using fire, water, air, and earth and it is necessary to use your best discretion to decide which method is best. I look forward to hearing about your results and experiences!
