Fire is recognized traditionally as a great destroyer and cleanser. It’s energy, physical and spiritual, consumes and cleanses objects, providing a release through flame and smoke.
Fire is best used to cleanse intangible objects, such as thoughts and memories, or destroy connections to objects that you don’t mind destroying. The way to do this is through charging a flammable object with the energy of the intangible concept, idea, or memory. The traditional way to do this is through writing or symbolism.
To cleanse memories, feelings, or thoughts, using a pen, write about what you want cleansed. Keep writing until you feel all relevant parts and connections have been divulged onto the paper. If it takes several pieces of paper, that’s okay, just keep writing until you get everything out. Really concentrate on transferring the energy of your thoughts, memories, and feelings into the paper that you’re writing on. In a fire-safe container that will be protected from any wind or breezes, fold or crumple loosely the paper you were writing on. Sprinkle in the folds or across the paper a cleansing herb such as lavender, sage, or rosemary. Light the paper on fire, and, as it burns, visualize the energy from the paper being cleansed by the fire and released into the atmosphere via the smoke. Photographs, letters, and other flammable objects can also be burned with the same visualization.
We’ve also discussed smudging in our air article, which is considered a fire method by some people, so check that article out here.
