Creator Deities

I am richly privileged in the circumstance that I have friends from many different religious backgrounds and beliefs. I’ve read many creator myths, though not all of them (I’ll get there!) but none of them really feel right to me. So, this post is just a little bit more about me and my personal religious beliefs and less a survey of creations.

In my eccentric version of Paganism, I do not believe in a Creator Deity – one that created the Universe and all that is in it. I don’t even believe in one that created the Earth Mother and Father Sky. But I do believe that the Earth Mother (and Father Sky, and Grandmother Moon, and Grandfather Sun…) has become a conscious being, with her own soul energy and some influence on our physical laws. I specify physical laws because, while she wishes the best for all of her creatures, man, porpoise, and porcine, she understands that for some to live, others must die. As Mufasa explains to Simba in The Lion King:

Mufasa: Everything you see exists together in a delicate balance. As king, you need to understand that balance and respect all the creatures, from the crawling ant to the leaping antelope.
Young Simba: But, Dad, don’t we eat the antelope?
Mufasa: Yes, Simba, but let me explain. When we die, our bodies become the grass, and the antelope eat the grass. And so we are all connected in the great Circle of Life.

I also do not believe in spiritual laws, either – there is no eternal damnation, hell, or punishment for not doing right. Being reincarnated does not gain or subtract esteem. We are all (man, porpoise, and porcine, rock, field, and flower) little slivers of Earth Mother’s soul and our greatest spiritual challenge, one that is ever a process and not a destination, is balance and harmony. What that means is different for each individual. For some of us, that means living closer to the land and studying the old ways, and for other it means excelling in a corporate environment and helping that machine find it’s place of harmony and balance. There are no inherent good or evil beyond what we have determined.

Nathara has been a practicing psychic, witch, spiritual advisor, and teacher for over two decades. As a third generation intuitive, she had the benefit of learning from the generations before her and holds that privilege close to her heart as the time she had with her mother is dear and precious to her. As an empath, she has always cared deeply for other people- maybe too deeply – and ultimately wants the world to happy and healthy. This is ultimate motivation behind CrowSong Lodge – how to heal the world – and giving folks the same benefit and privilege that she was given.
