Do vs. Don’t – Affirmations, Spells, and Other Energy Work

Coming up with affirmations, incantations, and other energy work wordings can be a complicated process. You need to balance both what works best with energy – clear and concise messages – and what works best with your own psychology, since if the two are at odds manifesting is going to be a tough gig!

A major part in whether you experience success is if you use positive statements or negative statements. I’m not talking about whether or not your statements are upbeat, but rather whether they’re supporting doing something or if they’re saying not to do something. From a psychological perspective, if you use a ‘don’t’ statement, you might as well be using a ‘do’ statement because of the way that the mind works. Perhaps you’ve seen this example before, but suppose I told you not to think of pink elephants. Unless you’ve really trained yourself not to, the first thing you did was think of a pink elephant. We see this with kids a lot, too – if we tell them not to do something, it becomes harder and harder for them to avoid doing it – that’s because they’re focusing on whatever object or action they’re supposed to be avoiding. From an energy standpoint, it needs something to DO. By telling it not to do something, you’ve taken away something it could be doing and replaced it with nothing. It NEEDS to flow and you’ll be better served by helping it figure out where to flow than where not to flow.

So, let’s look at some examples!

“I won’t be late for work anymore” vs. “I will be on time for work.”

“I won’t over eat anymore” vs. “I will eat healthy portions.”

“I won’t smoke anymore” vs. “I will ingest only healthy things into my body.”

“I won’t procrastinate anymore” vs. “I will approach tasks in a timely manner.”

“I won’t put myself down anymore” vs “I will honor my assets more.”

What examples have you used and found effective?
