Journeying Inward and Into the Subconscious

‘Journey’ is a word that is used a lot in the magical community, but what does it really mean?

Well, to put it simply, to journey is to go somewhere, only in this instance we’re talking about energetic travel. There are all kinds of journeys: astral, cosmic, subconscious, inward, vision quests, dream, and spiral. Today, let’s focus on inward and subconscious journeys.

In my experience, inward and subconscious journeys have been the most transformative. Other kinds of journeys are very educational, but I find that these two journey types will explore more foundational elements.

The difference between journeying inward and journeying into your subconscious are subtle, but significant. Traveling inward is to explore things that are in your conscious, stored in your chakras, and parts of your energy bodies. Traveling into your subconscious is focusing specifically on that area of your mind where the unknown, undiscovered, and hidden things dwell. In exploring your energy bodies, chakras, and your conscious mind you may discover things that are in your subconscious as well, but that is not the specific goal.

My preferred method of experiencing these kinds of journeys is through guided meditation and visualization.

To journey inward, I find it helps to use my series of house guided visualizations, wherein the house you explore is represents yourself. It’s really important to explore these with some caution and intent, because you never know exactly what you’re going to find. Stay tuned for some recorded meditations to be available, but if you’re ready to get started now, I would start by meditating on the house and what the different rooms represent and where they correspond in your energy bodies.

To journey into the subconscious, I usually travel, through visualization, into the shadowland. When you’re first starting out, it’s important not to go on your own and to take a companion with you. This companion can be an Animal Spirit Guide, totem, spiritual guide, gods, or your ancestors. It’s easy to get lost in the shadowlands, so going with a specific purpose and goal in mind is highly advised. There will also be coming guided meditations on this topic as well, but a great way to get started is to meditate on the shadowlands and gain information about them from Universe or other divine energetic source that you are close to.
