In our modern society of run-and-chase-the-goal, we rarely take the time to reflect on the gifts we’ve been given and the goals we’ve achieved. A lot of this is just being too busy, and some of it is never being able to have enough. There are other factors as well – rising costs of living, mounting pressure, increasing anxiety, etc. But we need to slow down sometimes, for our own sakes.
It’s important that you set some time aside, ideally on a daily basis, to just review the good things in your life. This may be difficult to do at first – our minds will try to hijack the exercise and focus on what we don’t have instead. Your thought may start out positive and then end up somewhere else. If that happens, gently bring your mind back to the task at hand. It may help to use a journal to make a list, too.
Try to come up with ten things every day if you can and really use your creativity to make them different every day – or at least, don’t recycle too often. The items you choose to be grateful for can be gifts, luck, or your own achievements – in fact, it’s best to have a mix of different things – this will naturally draw your mind to all the areas in your life where you can experience gratitude.
Here’s an example of one of my lists:
- My cats
- My fiancé
- The blessing of working from home
- I just got my car repaired
- My home is a true sanctuary
- The internet is SUCH a resource
- I can be SO connected to the world and STILL live in a small town!
- I have good friends, both in real life and online
- Scented candles
- My wonderful readers!
Practicing gratitude uplifts your mind and puts those positive vibes out into the Universe, attracting more positivity to you. Also, it helps open the door to other positive experiences.
So, what are you grateful for?
