Lions are hugely iconic animals in our modern society, often symbolizing nobility, majesty, pride, and ferocity. This is in keeping with more ancient associations of the lion with the sun and sun energies.
Lions are unique in the cat world in that they live and work in family groups, referred to as prides. Another trait they are known for is the dominance the females of the pride embody, where the males tend to do little in regards to daily survival for the pride. As such, lions are also strongly associated with feminine energies and community work.
When it comes to their young, lions take a community approach – all members of the pride look out for all the young in the pride, and the babies are treated with patience and affection. The childhood of a lion is care- and worry-free because all the adults make sure to take great care of them.
If you bring Lion energies into your life, or if Lion has been showing up for you lately, you want to examine your role in your community. Are you reaching out to family members and are tasks being shared evenly across the board? Has someone in your life taken on more than their fair share of familial duties? Do you need to reach out and help that person out? Have you taken on the role of the of the male lion and if you have, is that appropriate? Since lion represents a lot of female strength and independence, are you honoring that feminine side of yourself and acknowledging that part of your energy and strength? This is definitely a time to re-evaluate what you’re doing with your energy and whether or not it’s the energy that you want to be using.
If changes need to be made, don’t be afraid to get down and dirty and let loose that iconic lion’s roar!
