It’s probably surprising to see Snail here. When we think of Animal Spirit Guides, we don’t usually think of bug and creepy-crawlies. And when we do, we’re more likely to think of Butterfly, Spider, Ant, or Bee. But any living creature, plant, animal, insect, mollusk, fish, or gastropod can teach us in the ways of Spirit and life, and Snail is no exception.
The primary message of Snail is one of protection. Snail carries his home on his back and retreats into it when in danger. When the danger is persistent, he can create a hard mucous barrier across the entrance to his shell. When we see Snail, it reminds us to mind our barriers and protection. Especially when we run across one as a messenger, we need to examine what it was we were doing right at that minute and see where our vulnerabilities are in relation to what we were doing. For example, if you were focused on work and ran across Snail, then Snail is warning you to protect your vulnerabilities at work.
Another message of Snail is about the sacredness of our hearts, Spirits, and Inner Child, and home. Without its protective home on his back, Snail would be incredibly vulnerable, both to predators and to the elements. Snail reminds us that we, too, have substantial soft and sensitive parts as well. But Snail’s home is also in the shape of a sacred spiral, which leads us on a sacred journey.
