Tragedies in Japan

Hoo, boy. With the recent earthquake, tsunami, volcanic eruption, and nuclear accidents that have recently occurred in Japan, there are a lot of questions to be asked. What does this mean? What should we take from it? Did Japan do something wrong? Is the end nigh?

The end certainly isn’t nigh, first of all. We as a species survive and Japan, perhaps, is the most proven country among us all. This happened, I believe, not as a message to humanity against our sins and technology, but instead because of where Japan sits on the Ring of Fire. The Ring of Fire is where Teutonic plates meet just so in a circle marked by volcanoes and frequent earthquakes. In other words – it was going to happen inevitably, the question was simply ‘when’.

But that doesn’t mean we can’t have a spiritual experience out of it. Having the opportunity to reach out to our fellow man and other creatures is always a spiritual experience. It reminds us that we’re all connected, whether we want to admit it or not and reminds us of the importance of energy flows. Even if you can’t assist directly, you can send healing energy and prayers to Japan and the rest of the world to help ease the way for recovery.

It can also serve as a reminder that, as much as we would like to think so, we aren’t lord and master around here – we’re just inhabitants just like everything else and with a single action, we can be swept from the earth just like that. Life is precious and a gift and we need to remember to treat it as such. So what if my car needs a new cam shaft – I at least have running water and I am eternally grateful for that because in a second that can be taken away.

But what about the lives that were lost… why them and why this way? That’s a tough question and it depends a lot of your beliefs as to why we’re here. In my beliefs, their time here was done – they’d already completed their purpose and had pre-planned to give up their lives in this disaster. But that doesn’t lessen the grief of their families and the planet – they will still be loved and missed.

I’m curious to hear other’s thoughts and ideas – please feel welcome to comment and let me know your thoughts and feelings.
