Today I want to talk about what we do with our personal energy and how so few of us are using it effectively. Your thoughts are energy – pure energy. When you think about something, you give energy to that thing, situation, person, or worry. That energy then strengthens the connection between you, just like neural pathways in the brain. You see, in the brain, as thoughts connect concepts together, the electrical pathways between these concepts gets stronger until it becomes so fast that the association becomes automatic. So, too, does our energy work.
The more thought-energy we spend on something, the more we become connected to that thing. If you dwell on an argument that you had with your friend, the stronger your connection to the argument grows and the more your friend becomes associated with the argument. Enough of this, and they become more associated with the argument than they do with the friendship.
Sometimes people do bad things
Now, I’m not saying that if someone does something horrible to you that you should just put it out of mind and the relationship will be saved. Sometimes people do truly horrible things to each other and those things are so powerful that relationships and people can be changed forever. It does happen and if something like that happens to you, you need to protect yourself. The rules of cause and effect still apply.
It’s like the future is a series of odds. I’m sure we’ve all seen articles about TV shows where they try to predict what’s going to happen in the series. That’s kind of how life is, there’s a chance that this may happen and a chance that the other thing might happen. When we combine right thought with right action – for example, setting a goal to get a promotion and following that with exceptional work – you create a powerful source of energy connecting you to that promotion. If it changes your odds of getting that job by even 1%, it’s totally worth it. And it’s a much better way to spend your energy than thinking about all your own faults and foibles and doing nothing about them.
Right Thought, Right Action.
But you can do good things!
Now, there’s another part to this energy business. When you’re out and about, you’re interacting with a lot of different people. You go to the grocery and you spend 30 seconds walking past that guy in the frozen food aisle and another 5 minutes interacting with the cashier on your way out. Not to mention all the other people you brushed past, nodded to, smiled a hello at. During each of those encounters, no matter how brief, you are exchanging energy with that person. If you’re in a positive space, you give positive energy to other people. If you’re in a negative space, your hitting them with your negative energy. This is why when you’re smiling, the whole world seems to smile with you. And when you run into someone negative, you feel so drained afterwards. It’s this exchange of energy.
Yet another reason to keep up on our cleansing and shielding practices.
Right Thought, Right Action is a powerful tool. And so is managing where you spend your energy.
