So, yesterday was the beautiful Harvest Moon for 2011. It also, coincidentally, was the farthest away the moon is in its orbit around the Earth, so the moon was undetectably smaller than usual. This may make the moon’s energies slightly lest potent, but there will still be a strong effect.
The Harvest Moon is an important moon during the lunar calendar because it occurs at the traditional time of harvest. You can harvest in your own life, even if you aren’t a farmer, by assessing how your goals have gone. If you don’t check in regularly, now is a good time to do so. How are your goals progressing? Do you need to break them down into smaller goals? Have you forgotten them altogether? What do you need to do to reap the rewards and benefits of those goals? Did you get what you expected?
The Harvest Moon is also a sign that the year is coming to an end – whether you celebrate it on Samhain (Halloween) or on January 1st. How do you want to end the year? This is an especially good time to focus on gratitude and giving thanks. Many things have happened this year and your life, though it may look the same on the surface, has been changed. What gifts have you been given?
If you journal, or even if you don’t, it’s a wonderful time to write the story of your year. We forget so much and often we forget how far we’ve come. Write these things down and celebrate!
