Doors, doorways, archways, hallways, and gates are all examples of different portals that we use day to day. Portals are any structure, formal or informal, that separates one space from another space and are technically considered ‘between spaces’. And, just a people, animals, and other creatures use these portals to get from one place to another, so does energy, and anytime you access energy, you can effect and shape it.
A doormat is a traditional and normal way that we decorate our front doors – the portals into our home. They set the tone for our visitors – some are welcoming, some are humorous, and some are simply utilitarian, but by passing over this mat and through it’s associated portal, your visitors are effected by that energy. This is an example of how we can shape the energy in our spaces to be what we want.
To draw in a particular energy, let’s say calm relaxation, I might hang a sprig or wreath of lavender near the door for the room I want effected. Outside a meditation room would be a good place to do this, or on the doors to bedrooms. To lift energy and invigorate visitors, I may place orange peals near a threshold or I may ground them and sprinkle them across the portal itself. In Feng Shui, mirrors are placed across from doorways in order to reflect negative energy out the way it came in.
You can also hang symbols, pictures, scrolls, banners, vases, etc. on the doors themselves, or place desired herbs and powders under a mat in a doorway. If your portal is outside, such as a gate or an archway, you can even bury imbued objects under the path through the portal to help effect the energies.
What have you done to effect the energy coming through your portals?
