Wow, another Winter Solstice is upon us! Time seems to be passing by so quickly this year, and in just another couple weeks, it will be 2012!
We have two Solstices every year, one during summer and one in winter. Winter solstice is the shortest day of the year and the longest night of the year. The Winter solstice is when we can start enjoying the return of the sun and begin looking towards spring again.
This is also the time of year where the Roman calendar changes over into the new year. A lot of the traditions that we practice at Samhain can be continued, built upon, or practiced at this time of year. This includes reviewing the year that has passed and looking forward to the year that is to come. Though we are looking forward into the future year, it is not here yet, and so we have this period of respite from work and obligations.
It is also a time to cherish the blessings that you’ve received and that remain in your life, such as family, friends, and the warmth of companionship. We cherish the warmth of our homes, our beds, and the people in our lives.
One of my favorite ways to celebrate the Winter Solstice is to have a wonderful night time gathering of friends and family, starting right about dinner time, and lasting until the dawn. Time is spent chatting, playing games, singing songs, giving thanks, saying prayers, and watching the sun rise again in the morning. Knowing that with your family and friends at your side, you can make it through the longest and darkest of nights literally and metaphorically is an amazing experience.
I would also like to invite you to attend a Guide-led meditation and Q&A call at 7pm EST via Skype from A2Abundance. It’s a free call, and all are welcome to attend, just sign up on the mailing list to be included.
Regardless of the holiday that you choose to celebrate, I hope you have a wonderful holiday season, a happy New Year. 2012 promises to be an exciting year, and I wish all of you the greatest blessings in our world. Be good to each other.
